When you don’t make reservations, you can (& must) be flexible. Attractions close for maintenance, and campgrounds are sometimes booked, but you may also decide to visit a place you didn’t even know existed.
I prefer to follow a plan, but am trying to embrace going with the flow. So far, we’ve changed our ‘plans’ multiple times and we’ve been blessed with some lovely experiences.
We decided not to take our van down an unexpected washboard dirt road (estimated to be 22 miles long) and visited a recreated ghost town instead.

Instead of pushing ourselves to drive a couple hours to visit multiple attractions today, we grabbed a campsite at the Painted Rock Petroglyphs Campground mid-afternoon and enjoyed a little downtime in the warm desert sun.

We watched a paramotor (a backpack-mounted engine and propeller paired with a paraglider wing) fly around our campground…
…saw a lovely sunset,

…and viewed a unique moon.
