Two Weeks

Lancaster (SC), Charleston (SC), Myrtle Beach (SC), Stone Mountain (NC), Hickory (NC), and Six Mile (SC).

To start our two-week ‘Carolinas’ trip, we used our Harvest Host membership and stopped for a night at a brewery in SC. We enjoyed talking with the host/owner, visiting with other Harvest Host guests and sampling the beer.

Next we traveled to Charleston, SC for the grand opening of an RV dealership to see Matt of Matt’s RV Reviews. We’ve watched Matt for many years and have enjoyed watching his Youtube channel grow. It was a treat to meet him, Jen and Wil and check out the RVs at the dealership. We are planning to upgrade our RV and Matt graciously shared advice and encouragement.

If you’ve been following our blog for a while, you know we are drawn to military museums. As we left Charleston, we stopped at Patriots Point to tour the USS Yorktown, USS Laffey, Vietnam Experience Exhibit and Medal of Honor Museum.  Matt and I were so impressed by the Vietnam Experience, but want to warn those who served there – the sounds used in the exhibit may bring back bad memories. If you know someone who served in Vietnam, go check out the exhibit.

We spent the next few days in a large RV Resort in Myrtle Beach. First impressions were not great – spilled drinks, hair ties and used bandaids on the indoor pool deck, and the pool water was cloudy.  However, the rest of our time there was very nice. We lounged by the outdoor pool, floated on the lazy river, visited the on-site coffee shop, had lunch at the grill and got dinner at the food trucks by the beach. We took a paddle boat around one of the lakes and played miniature golf. We left the resort once to have dinner at a local seafood restaurant. Overall, it was a great stay and we decided that we’ll try another large campground in the future.

At Stone Mountain State Park, we reunited with friends to celebrate the wedding anniversary of pack members, the Pattersons. It was great to see everyone again and enjoy some time off-grid.

For Mother’s Day, we spent a couple days with my mom and dad at their house – visited the Hickory Aviation Museum – then traveled to Mile Creek Campground to spend time with Matt’s mom and family.

For the summer, we plan to stay home, complete a few house projects and put Siesta on the market. While we love her and are grateful to her for taking us on wonderful adventures, we’d like a little more space and have started the search for our next rig. More on that later…
